Baby pulled safely from under rubble in Nepal

Twenty-two hours after the massive earthquake that demolished  buildings and killed more than 5,000 people in Nepal, a 4-month-old boy  was rescued from the rubble.  The boy, named Sonit Awal, was buried under the rubble of his family’s house in Bhaktapur, near Kathmandu, when it collapsed during Saturday’s earthquake. According to a story in local newspaper Kathmandu Today, translated by the Guardian , rescuers tried until midnight to extract the baby from bricks and other debris that had fallen on him during the quake, but were unsuccessful. Two men arrested for death of co-worker who was mistakenly cooked in an industrial oven

Bumble Bee Foods and two managers were charged by Los Angeles prosecutors yesterday with violating safety regulations in the death of a worker who was cooked in an industrial oven with tons of tuna.   Jose Melena was performing maintenance in a 35-foot-long oven at the company’s Santa Fe Springs plant before dawn Oct. 11, 2012, when a co-worker, who mistakenly believed Melena was in the bathroom, filled the pressure cooker with 12,000 pounds of canned tuna and it was turned on. When a supervisor noticed Melena, 62, was missing, an announcement was made on the intercom and employees searched for him in the facility and parking lot, according to a report by the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. After a 2 hour search, the pressure cooker, which had reached a temperature of 270 degrees, was turned off and opened and that's where is body was found. Lagos Govt to provide Wi-Fi services for residents (in parks only)

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos state Ministry of Information Communication Technology, ICT, Mrs Nike Animashaun, has revealed plans by the state government to provide Wi-Fi services to residents of the state. Speaking at the state ministerial briefing in Alausa recently, Mrs Animashaun said the first phase of the Wi-Fi connectivity would be installed in parks within the state. She listed the first parks to benefit from the WiFi installment as Oshodi, Alausa and Ajegunle parks. “The Wi-Fi services will be in some of the parks in the state and when it is deployed, residents of Lagos State would be able to access Wi-Fi in some of the parks,” she said But who goes to these parks? Mrs Animashaun said that the state government came up with the idea to stimulate and encourage the interest of children in science and technology. She however did not state if the Wi-Fi connection will be free of charge.

Thieves steal Michael Essien's £75,000 Range Rover Vogue

 Police are yet to make any arrests following the burglary, which took place near Chelsea's training ground Ex-Chelsea star Michael Essien's Surrey home has been raided by burglars, making off with his flash Range Rover Vogue. Police confirmed that the £75,000 vehicle was stolen earlier this month, on April 7. Midfielder Essien now lives in Italy, playing for AC Milan, however he still owns the home which was purchased during his time at Chelsea. The property is located near Chelsea's Cobham Training Centre. A spokesman for Surrey Police told Mirror Online: "Officers have carried out a number of enquiries including extensive house-to-house in the local area and the investigation remains ongoing at this time." Two other vehicles were stolen in the same raid at a different address in Water Lane, Cobham, in the early hours of the morning, including a Mercedes and a BMW. No arrests have yet been made. Andy Mega Entertainment Report April 24, 2015 Everybody Loves Raymond  star  Sawyer Sweeten  has died by suspected suicide, his manager  Dino May  confirmed to  The Hollywood Reporter . He was 19. The actor was visiting his family in Texas, where he is believed to have shot himself on their front porch Thursday. Sweeten starred in  Everybody Loves Raymond  from 1996 to 2005, playing Geoffrey Barone .  His twin brother,  Sullivan ,played Michael Barone, while their sister  Madylin  played Ally Barone. The CBS series starred  Ray Romano  as their onscreen father.  “At this time I would like to encourage everyone to reach out to the ones you love," Madylin Sweeten  wrote on her Facebook page  Thursday. "Let them have no doubt of what they mean to you.”

Former Stationary stores and Green Eagles player, Peter Anieke has died. He died April 20th after a prolonged battle with acute rheumatism and arthritis. He was 68 years old. Peter, known for his great defence skills and goal scoring, started his football career in 1967, playing for local football leagues before moving into the National team in '70s where he played for the National team. He was nicknamed ‘Eusebio of Africa’ for the countless number of goals he scored while he played professional football.  He is survived by a wife and 6 children. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

Xenophobia: MTN Nigeria Warns 6,000 Nigerians will Lose Jobs if They are Attacked

 Hours after two groups protested in its Abuja and Benin offices against the violent killing of foreigners in its home country, South Africa, MTN Nigeria on Monday warned that should there be attacks on its facilities, it might be forced to close shop. And 99 per cent of its over 6,000 workforce in the country, who are Nigerians, would be thrown into the labour market. According to the Corporate Service Executive, MTN Nigeria, Mr. Wale Goodluck, there are only 12 expatriates working for the company in the country, compared to a workforce of 6,000 Nigerians. It also said that calls for the boycott of its services were unjustified as such an action would affect its support chain, which could cause another 500,000 Nigerians to lose their means of livelihood. Local gin consumption caused disease outbreak' - FG & WHO allege

  According to the Minister of State for Health, Mr Fidelis Nwankwo,  the disease is not in anyway related to the Ebola virus disease as was earlier speculated. The outbreak of a mysterious disease in Ode-Irele, Ondo state which has claimed the lives of about 18 people has been attributed to the the consumption of contaminated alcohol (gin). This was revealed in a joint press statement given by the Federal Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO). According to the Minister of State for Health, Mr Fidelis Nwankwo ,  the disease is not in anyway related to the Ebola virus disease as was earlier speculated. Yesterday, we heard about a strange illness in a community in Ondo state that has killed at least people who woke up blind, with headache, rashes on their bodies and died 24 hours later. According to new reports, it's not a medical condition. The state commissioner for Information and Strategy said the illness and sudden death is connected to an exhumed corpse in the community. He said people who've died so far were those who had contact with the people who exhumed the corpse. However, a source told LIB that it was a group of people who invaded a shrine that are being attacked "The said death by an unknown disease in Ode Irelein Ondo state, is not a disease as believed, it's actually a spiritual attack in the village meted on some indigenes in that locality who invaded the village shrine.." MC Galaxy attacked at Shizzi's studio by Davido and his driver

An incident happened 2 days that a few industry people have called my attention to and want it public so it will not repeat itself. Sekem crooner MC Galaxy was attacked and badly injured on Wednesday night April 15th at producer Shizzi's studio in Lekki. According to a reliable industry source, MC Galaxy, Davido (they have collaborated before) B-Red, Shizzi, Davido's driver, a guy named Lati and other HKN members were at Shizzi's studio working and laughing when suddenly things turned ugly. According to someone who witnessed the beat down, trouble started after MC Galaxy told B-Red that he (Galaxy) was more popular than him (B-Red). B-Red didn't agree and they went back and forth. Then an HKN Gang member, who is a Ghanaian artist, told MC Galaxy that he was not funny as a comedian. Award winning pharmacist allegedly commits suicide in Lagos

A married church leader and award winning pharmacist, Paul Olafare pictured above, allegedly committed suicide yesterday April 12th at his home in Lagos. He was found dead by his wife. According to multiple sources, Paul, a father of two, had been under a lot of pressure following a huge unpaid loan he collected from some people to set up his own pharmacy. His dream of setting up his own pharmacy failed leading to huge financial indebtedness. This allegedly led to chronic depression. Paul was awarded the Lagos State Pharmacist of the Year 2013 and was reported to have been an active member of his church where he mentored the youth group.  According to a friend close to the situation, Paul had allegedly hinted to his wife that he would take his life if things didn't change for him.
